Talent Analysis
Sparks is a big goalie at 6’2, but saw limited time in net in his rookie season with the Guelph Storm, serving as the back-up to Brandon Foote. The Illinois native has good rebound control and makes nice sprawling saves. He does lose his composure in net occasionally, losing form and getting out of position.
The Storm netminder is very smart, as he was awarded the Ivan Tennant Memorial Award for the top academic high school player in the Ontario Hockey League. He also earned the Paul Fendley Memorial Scholastic Player of the Year Award, given to the player on the Storm roster with the best combined achievement in hockey and academics.
